AOC Tavel

AOC Tavel is a French wine appellation located in the Rhône-Alpes region, on the right bank of the Rhône, some twenty kilometers from Avignon. It is renowned for its dry rosé wines, made from Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault grapes.

The Tavel vineyard covers 960 hectares, on south-facing slopes and alluvial terraces. The soils are composed of rolled pebbles, sand and clay, giving the wines their characteristic minerality and power. The climate is Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and mild winters.

Organic farming is booming in the Tavel AOC. By 2023, around 25% of the vineyard area is certified organic, i.e. around 240 hectares.

Grenache is the main grape variety in the Tavel appellation. It gives the wines their roundness, fruitiness and suppleness. Syrah gives the wines power, structure and aromas of spice and black pepper. Cinsault completes the blend, bringing freshness and floral notes.

Tavel rosé wines are characterized by their intense pink color, complex nose of red fruit, spice and floral aromas, and full, fleshy mouthfeel. They are endowed with good acidity and a long finish.
