AOC Chénas

AOP Chénas is a French appellation d'origine contrôlée for red wines produced in the Rhône department of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It is located in the communes of Chénas and La Chapelle-de-Guinchay, in the Beaujolais vineyards. The vineyard is located in the northern part of the Beaujolais region, about 20 kilometers south of Mâcon. It extends over 249 hectares, including 150 hectares for the commune of Chénas and 99 hectares for the commune of La Chapelle-de-Guinchay.

The vineyard's climate is continental, with oceanic influences. Winters are cold and wet, summers hot and dry. Gamay noir à jus blanc is the appellation's main grape variety, accounting for at least 90% of the blend. Other authorized grape varieties are gamay noir à jus noir and pinot noir.

AOP Chénas wines are characterized by a ruby-red color, aromas of red and black fruits, and a round, fruity palate. AOP Chénas wines can be enjoyed young, but they have good aging potential, able to be kept for several years.
