AOC Lalande de Pomerol

The Lalande-de-Pomerol PDO is a wine appellation on Bordeaux's right bank, benefiting from an exceptional terroir and ancestral know-how. An immediate neighbor of the prestigious Pomerol appellation, it produces wines of great finesse, often compared to their illustrious neighbors, while retaining its own identity. In recent years, organic viticulture has developed significantly within the appellation. Organic Lalande-de-Pomerol wines now appeal to lovers of great red wines that are balanced, elegant and respectful of the environment.

The Lalande-de-Pomerol PDO covers some 1,100 hectares spread over two main communes: Lalande-de-Pomerol and Néac. Situated on a variety of soils, from gravel to deep clay, the appellation benefits from a temperate oceanic climate, with continental influences favoring the gradual ripening of the grapes. The gravel and gravelly sand soils bring finesse and elegance to the wines, while the deep clays offer structure and great ageing potential. Thanks to these varied terroirs, Lalande-de-Pomerol's organic wines can combine suppleness and power, with beautiful aromatic complexity.

The appellation's wines are dominated by Merlot, the king grape of Bordeaux's right bank. It gives the wines a velvety texture, aromas of red and black fruits, and a beautiful roundness. The appellation's winemakers sometimes combine Merlot with complementary grape varieties such as Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon or the rarer Malbec.

The Lalande-de-Pomerol bio are distinguished by their perfect balance between richness and finesse. Here are the main characteristics found in these exceptional wines. Their color is often intense, with purple and garnet highlights. On the nose, the wines of this PDO develop generous aromas of black fruit (blackcurrant, blackberry, plum), often accompanied by notes of violet, spices and a subtle woodiness when the wine is aged in barrels. The palate has a silky structure, with fine, velvety tannins and a freshness that brings elegance. The finishes are persistent, revealing hints of cocoa, truffle.

The Lalande-de-Pomerol bio are wines that can be enjoyed young for their bright fruit, but they also possess very good ageing potential, evolving towards more complex notes of undergrowth and leather over the years.

Thanks to their richness and elegance, Lalande-de-Pomerol organic wines pair perfectly with a wide variety of dishes. Here are a few pairing suggestions.

Red meats

Grilled or roasted red meats: a fillet of beef with porcini mushrooms or a herb-crusted rack of lamb will sublimate the wine's velvety tannins.

Dishes in sauce: coq au vin or boeuf bourguignon will highlight the wine's depth and structure.

Ripened cheeses : A Comté, Cantal or Saint-Nectaire will bring out the aromatic complexity of the most evolved cuvées.

Vegetarian cuisine : A mushroom risotto or grilled eggplant will be the perfect accompaniment to an organic Lalande-de-Pomerol with spicy notes.

We suggest the wines of Château des Annereaux, which well represent the elegance of this appellation.

Château des Annereaux Lalande de Pomerol - 2020

Here's a very pretty organic Lalande-de-Pomerol in a very successful 2020 vintage. The château des Annereaux produces a wine with a fruity, harmonious attack. The elegant tannins are well-integrated and silky. The aromatic palette is marked by fruitiness and a restrained, mellow woodiness. Good length. An elegance and balance rare in modern Bordeaux. We love this lacy wine.
