In 2009, Francis Boulard, his wife Jeanne and daughter Delphine founded Champagne Francis Boulard & Fille. For many years, Francis Boulard had given an organic impulse to the Raymond Boulard family estate; some vines were thus converted and certified organic.
With his daughter Delphine, he can now take this approach to champagne wines as natural as possible to its logical conclusion. The aim is to have the entire estate certified organic. The champagnes are precise, fine and full of personality. A sure bet among Champagne's finest winemakers.
The vineyards of the Francis Boulard & Fille estate are largely located in Cormicy, northwest of Reims, in the Massif de Saint-Thierry nicknamed "la Petite Montagne de Reims", on siliceous limestone terroirs.
The estate's vines are also present in Paradis (Hameau de Belval in the Marne Valley), Cuchery, Cauroy-lès-Hermonville and Mailly-Champagne, a village classified as a Grand Cru on the Montagne de Reims. Vineyard exposure is mainly east-northeast, south in the Marne Valley.
.The focus on organic farming goes back several years: with the aim of making Champagne wines endowed with character and the most natural available, a good proportion of Cormicy's vines have been worked since 2001 without weedkillers or synthetic products, controlled in conversion since 2004 by Ecocert. Since then, they have been cultivated in biodynamie (see box) and certified by Ecocert. Now that the Francis Boulard et Fille estate exists, the aim is quite naturally to have 100% of the estate certified organically grown, and the conversion of those not certified was immediately set in motion.
For the past few years, Francis has handed over the reins to his daughter Delphine, who runs the estate superbly.
