AOC Saint Romain

AOP Saint-Romain, located in Burgundy's Côte de Beaune region, is a renowned appellation known for its fine white and red wines. Perched on hillsides over 300 meters above sea level, this appellation benefits from a unique terroir, where Chardonnay and Pinot Noir express all their elegance and freshness. Saint-Romain, one of the highest villages in the Côte de Beaune, is often nicknamed "l'écrin minéral" ("the mineral jewel case") thanks to its limestone soils, which lend a beautiful tension and marked minerality to the wines. The vines, surrounded by impressive cliffs, benefit from a cool climate, offering lively, well-balanced wines.

The organic wines of Saint-Romain, produced with respect for the terroir and the environment, seduce with their purity and authentic character. The taut, aromatic whites are the perfect accompaniment to seafood or fish, while the elegant, structured reds are the perfect match for white meats or mature cheeses.

The Saint-Romain PDO is located at the western end of the Côte de Beaune, close to Meursault and Auxey-Duresses. The vineyard covers around 100 hectares, spread over hillsides with predominantly southern and eastern exposure. This relatively high altitude, between 300 and 400 meters, sets Saint-Romain apart from other Côte de Beaune villages. The Saint-Romain terroir is characterized by mineral-rich limestone and marl soils. These soils, combined with the altitude, bring a characteristic freshness and tension to the wines, as well as an elegant minerality. The appellation's climatic conditions, influenced by the coolness of the heights, allow the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly, favoring the preservation of aromas and natural acidity.

The Saint-Romain vineyard, often grown organically, also benefits from an unspoilt environment, surrounded by spectacular cliffs and forests. This exceptional location contributes to the uniqueness of Saint-Romain's organic wines, which stand out for their balance, purity and finesse.

The Saint-Romain PDO produces exclusively white and red wines, made from the two emblematic grape varieties of Burgundy:

Chardonnay (for white wines):

This grape gives rise to elegant, taut white wines with lovely freshness and marked minerality. Characteristic aromas include notes of citrus (lemon, grapefruit), white-fleshed fruit (pear, apple) and sometimes white flowers or honey. On the palate, Saint-Romain whites are distinguished by their balance between acidity and roundness, with an often saline finish.

Pinot Noir (for red wines):

Saint-Romain Pinot Noir produces delicate reds, with aromas of red fruits (cherry, raspberry, strawberry) and floral or spicy notes. The tannins are fine, offering elegant, well-balanced wines with a structure that allows them to age pleasantly. Saint-Romain's organic wines, made from grapes grown without pesticides or synthetic chemicals, fully express the richness and diversity of these grape varieties. Whether for chiseled whites or elegant reds, AOP Saint-Romain is a must-have appellation for lovers of great Burgundy wines.

The AOP Saint-Romain offers white and red wines distinguished by their elegance, freshness and faithful expression of Burgundy terroir.

White wines:

The white wines of Saint-Romain, made from Chardonnay, are often described as taut and mineral. Their freshness, combined with aromas of citrus, white-fleshed fruit and sometimes white flowers or hazelnut, make them perfectly balanced wines. On the palate, they are lively, with a saline finish reminiscent of the appellation's limestone soils. These whites are ideal for accompanying seafood, grilled fish or vegetarian dishes.

Red wines:

Saint-Romain's reds, made from Pinot Noir grapes, are characterized by their delicacy and finesse. The nose reveals aromas of cherry, raspberry and strawberry, complemented by floral and sometimes spicy notes. On the palate, these wines are elegant, with fine tannins and a balanced structure. They go perfectly with white meats, poultry or mature cheeses such as Comté or Brillat-Savarin.

The organic wines of Saint-Romain, whether white or red, reflect all the richness of the terroir and the expertise of the winemakers. Their purity and authentic character appeal equally to Burgundy connoisseurs and those discovering the great wines of this region.
