AOC Chassagne-Montrachet

The Chassagne-Montrachet PDO lies south of Beaune, encompassing the communes of Chassagne-Montrachet and part of Remigny. The Chassagne-Montrachet terroir is characterized by limestone, clay-limestone and marl soils, which offer excellent drainage capacity and favor grape ripeness. The climate is continental, with hot summers and cold winters, allowing optimal ripening of the grapes and rich aromatic expression.

The white wines of the Chassagne-Montrachet PDO are mainly made from the Chardonnay grape variety. They are renowned for their richness, complexity and ageing potential. Typical aromas include white-fleshed fruit (apple, pear), citrus (lemon, grapefruit), dried fruit (hazelnut, almond), as well as floral (white flowers) and mineral (gunflint) nuances. On the palate, the wines are round, opulent and balanced, with lovely freshness and remarkable length.

The red wines of the Chassagne-Montrachet PDO are made from the Pinot Noir grape variety. They are distinguished by their finesse, elegance and tannic structure. Typical aromas include notes of red fruit (cherry, raspberry), black fruit (blackberry, blackcurrant), as well as spicy (pepper, clove) and woody (cedar, vanilla) nuances. On the palate, the wines are harmonious, with fine, silky tannins, well-integrated acidity and a lingering finish.

The Chassagne-Montrachet PDO covers an area of around 300 hectares, of which around two-thirds are planted with Chardonnay and one-third with Pinot Noir. Annual production is around 15,000 hectolitres, or some 2 million bottles. The diversity of plots and climates within the appellation enables the production of wines with varied profiles, but always of high quality.

The wines of AOP Chassagne-Montrachet are renowned for their elegance and complexity. The whites offer an aromatic purity and mineral structure that enable them to age admirably, while being accessible young for their bright fruitiness. The reds, with their finesse and tannic structure, go well with meat dishes, roast poultry and mature cheeses. The wines of Chassagne-Montrachet reflect the typicity of their terroir and the mastery of winemakers who combine tradition and innovation.
