AOC Chorey-Lès-Beaune

The Appellation d'Origine Protégée (AOP) Chorey-lès-Beaune is a wine appellation in the region of Burgundy, France, located in the Côte de Beaune. It is renowned for the production of elegant red wines and some refined white wines. Although less well known than some other Côte de Beaune appellations, Chorey-lès-Beaune offers wines of exceptional quality that express the unique character of their terroir.

Chorey-lès-Beaune is located just north of Beaune, between the famous villages of Savigny-lès-Beaune and Aloxe-Corton. The terroir of this appellation is characterized by clay-limestone soils, sometimes stony, which are particularly well-suited to the cultivation of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The region's semi-continental climate, with hot summers and cold winters, allows optimal ripening of the grapes, giving the wines beautiful concentration and aromatic complexity.

.

The wines of the Chorey-lès-Beaune PDO are mainly red and made from the Pinot Noir grape variety. Red wines are distinguished by their finesse, aromas of red fruits (cherry, raspberry) and black fruits (blackberry, blackcurrant), as well as spicy and floral notes. On the palate, they feature silky tannins, good acidity and pleasant length.

White wines, though less common, are made from the Chardonnay grape. They are characterized by their aromas of white-fleshed fruit (apple, pear), white flowers and sometimes mineral notes. On the palate, these white wines are balanced, fresh and elegant.

The Chorey-lès-Beaune PDO covers around 140 hectares of vineyards, the vast majority of which are devoted to the production of red wines. Annual production is around 7,500 hectoliters, which is a modest amount compared to some of the other Côte de Beaune appellations, but it helps to maintain high quality.

The wines of Chorey-lès-Beaune are made from a variety of grape varieties.

The wines of Chorey-lès-Beaune are appreciated for their accessibility and value for money, often regarded as Burgundy's "little treasures". They offer a fine introduction to Côte de Beaune wines for wine lovers, and can rival in quality some of the region's more prestigious crus.

More and more wineries in the Chorey-lès-Beaune PDO are adopting organic and biodynamic viticulture practices. This approach aims to respect the environment, preserve biodiversity and produce more authentic, healthier wines. Practices include the use of natural composts, tilling the soil without synthetic chemicals and natural phytosanitary treatments to combat vine diseases.
