AOC Moulin-à -vent

The Moulin-à-Vent Appellation d'Origine Protégée (AOP) is one of the ten prestigious Beaujolais crus, straddling the communes of Romanèche-Thorins and Chénas, north of Lyon. Renowned for its robust, elegant red wines, this appellation takes its name from an old windmill atop a hill, an emblem of the terroir.

The Moulin-à-Vent PDO covers some 640 hectares of vineyards. The soils are mainly composed of pink granite, rich in manganese, giving the wines exceptional tannic structure and aging capacity. The terroir benefits from a semi-continental climate with Mediterranean influences, offering ideal conditions for the maturation of the Gamay Noir grape variety with white juice.

The red wines of Moulin-à-Vent PDO are made exclusively from the Gamay grape variety. This grape expresses itself fully in this appellation, producing wines with intense aromas of red fruits (cherry, raspberry) and black fruits (blackberry, blackcurrant), as well as floral (peony, violet), spicy and mineral notes. On the palate, Moulin-à-Vent wines are structured, powerful and complex, with firm tannins and balanced acidity, offering good length and excellent ageing potential.

The Moulin-à-Vent PDO covers around 640 hectares, with an annual production of around 25,000 hectoliters. This production enables us to maintain high quality while meeting a growing demand for these prestigious wines. The appellation's large surface area also allows for a great diversity of terroirs, offering a multitude of expressions of the Gamay grape variety.

AOP Moulin-à-Vent wines are often considered among the noblest and most complex of the Beaujolais crus. Their tannic structure and exceptional aging capacity often bring them close to the great wines of Burgundy. The best vintages can age for several decades, developing more complex aromas and an even more harmonious texture over time.
