AOC Quincy

AOP Quincy is an appellation d'origine contrôlée for dry white wines produced in the Cher department of the Centre-Val de Loire region. It was recognized in 1936, making it the region's first appellation d'origine contrôlée. The AOP Quincy production area is limited to the communes of Quincy and Brinay. The vines are planted on ancient terraces of the Cher River, at an altitude of between 100 and 200 meters. The soil is composed of limestone and flint, giving the wines their mineral character.

.

The single grape variety authorized for the Quincy PDO is Sauvignon. Harvesting generally takes place at the end of August. The wine is aged in vats for a few months before being bottled.

AOP Quincy wines are characterized by their freshness and liveliness. They present aromas of citrus (grapefruit, lemon, pear), white flowers (acacia, jasmine) and exotic fruits (lychee, mango). They are best enjoyed young, but can also be kept for several years.

Production of Quincy PDO is around 10,000 hectolitres a year. The wines are marketed in France and abroad.

The wine cannot be aged in oak barrels.

According to data from the Bureau Interprofessionnel des Vins de Loire (BIVL), the share of organic surface area in the Quincy appellation was 20% in 2023. This represents a surface area of 62 hectares out of a total of 310 hectares. This figure has been rising steadily for several years. In 2019, the organic surface share was 14%.

This development is due to a growing awareness among winegrowers of the importance of sustainable viticulture. Converting to organic means preserving the environment, reducing the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers, and producing healthier, more authentic wines.
