The Domaine Philippe Gilbert has a long history that goes back several generations, within the Gilbert family. Located in Menetou-Salon, some twenty kilometers from Sancerre, the estate has always been a benchmark in this small but prestigious Loire Valley appellation.

Philippe Gilbert took over the family estate in the 2000s after a career in the theater, but with the same passion as his ancestors. As soon as he took over the vineyard, he set about modernizing and converting the estate to organic viticulture, and then to biodynamic viticulture. For him, the goal was clear: to produce organic wines that faithfully express the specific characteristics of the Menetou-Salon terroir, while respecting the earth for future generations.

The soils of Menetou-Salon, mainly composed of limestone and Kimmeridgian clays, are particularly conducive to the production of high-quality wines. The region's temperate climate, influenced by the Loire, allows ideal ripening of grape varieties, notably Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, emblematic of the appellation.

Back in 2006, Philippe Gilbert began converting his vineyards to organic farming, convinced that this method was the best way to reveal the quality of his terroir while preserving the environment. Biodynamic practices go beyond organic farming. They take into account natural rhythms, such as the phases of the moon and cosmic cycles, to promote symbiosis between the vine and its ecosystem. No use of synthetic chemicals is tolerated: natural fertilizers and plant-based preparations strengthen the vines and promote biodiversity.
