AOP Moulis en Médoc

We offer the Moulis-en-Médoc from Chateau Lalaudey, in organic conversion.

The Moulis-en-Médoc PDO is a wine appellation located in the Médoc region, on the left bank of the Gironde River in southwestern France. It is part of the Bordeaux vineyards, renowned for their quality red wines.

The terroir of Moulis-en-Médoc is varied, composed of gravel, sand, clay and limestone. These soils contribute to the complexity of the wines by offering different drainage, water retention and nutrition conditions for the vines. The region's temperate oceanic influence, combined with its proximity to the Gironde estuary, creates an ideal microclimate for growing Bordeaux grape varieties.

Traditional Bordeaux grape varieties are used in the production of Moulis-en-Médoc wines. These include Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and, to a lesser extent, Malbec. The blending of these grape varieties varies from estate to estate, bringing aromatic and structural diversity to the wines.

Winemaking at Moulis-en-Médoc generally follows traditional Bordeaux methods. Pre-fermentation maceration, fermentation in stainless steel or oak vats, and aging in French oak barrels are common practices. These techniques aim to extract color, aromas and tannic structure from the grapes.

Moulis-en-Médoc wines are distinguished by their elegance, aromatic complexity and balanced tannic structure. There are aromas of red and black fruits, spicy notes, and sometimes touches of tobacco and leather. The quality of the tannins often enables the wines to age well in the cellar.

Moulis-en-Médoc offers a range of styles, from more accessible wines in their youth to more elaborate cuvées destined for extended cellaring. Some estates also produce white and rosé wines, although reds are predominant.
