Le Mas d'Alezon in a few words...
Le Mas d'Alezon, run by Catherine Roque, is located on the highest schist terroir in the appellation. This Faugères vineyard, run biodynamically, is planted with mourvèdre, grenache and syrah. At Mas d'Alezon, the wines are matured in the most natural way possible, with the minimum of human intervention. An estate to fall in love with!
Le Mas d'Alezon and Domaine de Clovallon, located in Faugères and the Upper Orb Valley respectively, between them embody the diversity and elegance of great Languedoc wines. Founded by Catherine Roque, these estates are the fruit of passionate and rigorous work, highlighting exceptional terroirs and an approach in total harmony with nature. Thanks to organic and biodynamic viticulture, both estates produce lively, expressive wines marked by freshness, minerality and unique aromatic complexity. Each cuvée is designed to best reflect the singularity of the soils and climate, offering fine, authentic wines in the image of the deep, wild Languedoc.
Le Mas d'Alezon and Domaine de Clovallon benefit from very distinct climatic conditions and soils, giving their wines unique and complementary personalities.
Le Mas d'Alezon, located in the Faugères appellation, rests on ancient schists, typical of this Languedoc region. This terroir gives the wines great minerality, tannic structure and remarkable depth. Thanks to the altitude of the plots (up to 450 meters), Mas d'Alezon wines retain a natural freshness, a key element for the balance and elegance of the cuvées.
The Domaine de Clovallon, meanwhile, is nestled in the Haute Vallée de l'Orb, a cooler, wetter area of the Languedoc. Here, the soils combine limestone and marl, giving the wines remarkable finesse and tension. The more temperate climate allows the grapes to ripen more slowly, favoring elegant aromatic profiles and well-preserved acidity.
Both estates are committed to organic and biodynamic viticulture, respecting natural cycles and promoting soil vitality. No chemicals are used, to preserve biodiversity and ensure a pure expression of terroir. The vines are worked with care, thanks to light ploughing and controlled grassing, allowing the roots to draw deep down all the elements essential to the complexity of the wines.
The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand, guaranteeing a meticulous selection of bunches. In the cellar, vinification is low-interventionist, favoring spontaneous fermentation and gentle extractions to best respect the integrity of the fruit. Ageing is carried out in vats, foudres or amphorae, to refine the texture of the wines while preserving their aromatic purity.
Le Presbytère du Mas d'Alezon is a cuvée made mainly from Grenache. The wine develops notes of red fruit and garrigue, and is often only 12.50% alcohol. A digestible, complex organic wine.
More powerful, the Cuvée Montfalette from Mas d'Alezon is made from Mourvèdre: it has a fine density that enables it to hold up over the years, as well as great finesse and complexity on notes of black fruit and licorice. A cuvée that rarely disappoints!
Cabretta is a magnificent white, all balance, a blend of clairette, viognier and roussanne: beautiful complexity and great aromatic precision for this gastronomic white wine!

Mas d'Alezon and Domaine de Clovallon
In addition to Mas d'Alezon, Catherine Roque and her daughter Alix also run the Domaine de Clovallon, located on the other side of the Faugères mountain. The wines here are fresh and easy to digest.
Guide des meilleurs vins de France 2022, domaine 2 étoiles: "We've fallen in love with Catherine Roque's wines: her Faugères are once again great successes (...) By dint of meticulous work, as natural as possible, and by gradually increasing the proportion of mourvèdre, she is now vinifying one of the finest interpretations of the cru, the confidential cuvée Montfalette. Together, these wines have placed this domaine at the top of the appellation for several years now. Don't hesitate to decant the wines if necessary, and beware of temperature shocks that could harm them.
