The Appellation d'Origine Protégée (AOP) Chapelle-Chambertin is one of the nine prestigious Grand Cru appellations of Gevrey-Chambertin, located in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits region. Renowned for its elegant, deep red wines, this appellation embodies the quintessence of great Burgundy wines.
Chapelle-Chambertin is a 5.48-hectare vineyard located immediately southeast of the famous Chambertin and Chambertin-Clos de Bèze vineyards. The terroir of Chapelle-Chambertin is characterized by well-drained limestone soils, rich in marl and clay, which are ideal for the Pinot Noir grape variety. The region's continental climate, with hot summers and cold winters, favors slow, steady ripening of the grapes, enabling optimum expression of the wines' aromas and tannic structure.
.The wines of the Chapelle-Chambertin PDO are made exclusively from the Pinot Noir grape variety. They are distinguished by their elegance, complexity and exceptional aging capacity. Typical aromas include notes of red fruit (cherry, raspberry), black fruit (blackberry, blackcurrant), as well as floral (violet), spicy (pepper, clove) and woody (vanilla, cedar) nuances. On the palate, the wines are harmonious, with fine, silky tannins, well-balanced acidity and remarkable length.
The Chapelle-Chambertin PDO covers an area of 5.48 hectares, producing a limited quantity of wine each year, which contributes to its rarity and prestige. Annual production is around 150 hectolitres, or 20,000 bottles. This restricted production allows the winemakers to focus on quality and maintain high standards.
AOP Chapelle-Chambertin wines are renowned for their finesse and depth. Their aging capacity is remarkable, with vintages that can evolve magnificently for several decades. These wines are often described as having unrivalled aromatic complexity and elegance, perfectly reflecting the unique terroir of Chapelle-Chambertin. In gastronomic terms, they pair superbly with rich, savory dishes such as game, roasted meats and mature cheeses.
