AOC Vacqueyras is a French wine appellation located in the Rhône-Alpes region, on the left bank of the Rhône, some twenty kilometers north of Avignon. It is renowned for its dry red wines, made from Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre grapes.
Vacqueyras vineyards cover 1,340 hectares, on alluvial terraces and stony hillsides. The soils are clay-limestone and sandy, giving the wines their characteristic power and finesse. The climate is Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and mild winters.
.Organic farming is booming in AOC Vacqueyras. By 2023, around 25% of the vineyard area is certified organic, i.e. around 335 hectares.
Grenache is the main grape variety in the Vacqueyras appellation. It gives the wines their roundness, fruitiness and suppleness. Syrah brings power, structure and aromas of spice and black pepper. Mourvèdre completes the blend, bringing complexity and notes of garrigue.
The red wines of Vacqueyras are characterized by their intense ruby color, their complex nose of black fruit, spice and garrigue aromas, and their full, fleshy mouthfeel. They feature good acidity and a long finish.
