AOP Sancerre in a few words
The Sancerre vineyard is one of the most famous in France. The AOC Sancerre was obtained for whites as early as 1936, and for reds and rosés in 1959. Organic white wines from Sancerre are made from Sauvignon Blanc, while organic red wines are made from Pinot Noir. The vines are planted on steep slopes overlooking the Loire Valley, at altitudes of up to 400 meters.
The terroir of Sancerre is renowned for its whites, which take on a flinty flavor thanks to the alliance between Sauvignon and soils composed either of Kimmeridgian marl (as in Chablis), dry, highly stony limestone (caillottes), or flint-rich silica.
Organic red wines from Sancerre are made from pinot noir: the best are true little Burgundies, fruity and gourmet, long and complex for the best.
We suggest the estates François Crochet, Vincent Gaudry, the Domaine Pré-Semelé to discover these magnificent wines
Aside from viticulture, the Sancerre region is also known for its gastronomy, notably for its goat's cheese, the famous Crottin de Chavignol, as well as dishes based on Loire fish and local mushrooms.
