AOC Côte-Rotie

AOC Côte-Rôtie is a French wine appellation located in the Rhône-Alpes region, on the right bank of the Rhône, some 30 kilometers south of Lyon. It is renowned for its dry red wines, made from Syrah and Viognier grapes.

The Côte-Rôtie vineyard covers 290 hectares, on steep south-facing slopes. The soils are granitic and schistose, giving the wines a characteristic minerality. The climate is continental, with Mediterranean influences. Organic farming is booming in the Côte-Rôtie AOC. By 2023, around 20% of the vineyard area is certified organic, i.e. some 58 hectares.

Syrah is the main grape variety of the Côte-Rôtie appellation. It gives the wines their power, structure and aromas of black fruits and spices. Viognier, used in small quantities, adds a touch of freshness and elegance to the wines.

The red wines of Côte-Rôtie are characterized by their intense ruby color, their complex nose of black fruit, spice and floral aromas, and their full, fleshy mouthfeel. They are endowed with good acidity and a long finish.

We offer the Côtes Roties from Domaine François Villard and from Domaine Clusel-Roch
