CloseLe Clos Maïa in brief....
Géraldine Laval brilliantly manages Clos Maïa located on the exceptional terroir of the Larzac terraces.
Le Clos Maia, located on the heights of the Terrasses du Larzac, is a wine estate that embodies the elegance and finesse of great Languedoc wines. Founded by Guilhem Dardé, the estate is based on meticulous vineyard work and an approach in perfect harmony with nature. Each cuvée expresses the singularity of the terroir and the authenticity of the Mediterranean climate, revealing wines of great precision. By focusing on organic and biodynamic viticulture, Clos Maia is committed to respecting the soil and giving pure expression to local grape varieties. The wines, matured with care and patience, are marked by beautiful tension, dazzling freshness and remarkable aromatic depth.
Le Clos Maia extends over several hectares, nestled between 300 and 400 meters above sea level on the steep Larzac hillsides. This privileged location offers ideal conditions for the production of balanced wines, where the power of the Mediterranean sun is counterbalanced by the coolness of the high-altitude nights. The Terrasses du Larzac enjoy a singular climate, marked by wide temperature variations between day and night. This phenomenon favors slow, gradual ripening of the grapes, preserving their natural acidity and intensifying their aromatic palette.
The soils of Clos Maia are exceptionally rich, composed of limestone, schist and clayey marl. This diversity gives the wines beautiful minerality, vibrant tension and great depth. Working the soil is essential to encourage deep rooting of the vines, allowing the grape varieties to draw out all the complexity of the terroir.
The estate adopts an organic and biodynamic approach to preserve the vineyard's natural balance and best express the singularity of its terroir. No chemical inputs are used, which promotes biodiversity and maintains a rich microbial life in the soil. Ploughing is carried out with care and natural grassing is encouraged, allowing deep rooting of the vines and strengthening their resistance to climatic conditions.
Harvesting is exclusively manual, guaranteeing precise grape selection and allowing only the healthiest, ripest berries to be picked. In the cellar, vinification is gentle and natural, bringing out the unique identity of each cuvée without artifice. Aging is carried out in foudres, amphorae and barrels, to refine the structure of the wines while preserving their aromatic purity and finesse.
The work carried out at Clos Maia has elevated this estate among the benchmarks of the Languedoc. With limited production and constant attention to detail, each bottle tells a unique story, that of a terroir preserved and sublimated by a respectful and visionary approach.
The work done at Clos Maia has elevated this estate among the Languedoc's benchmarks.
