The Appellation d'Origine Protégée (AOP) Mâcon is one of Burgundy's largest appellations, covering a large part of the Mâconnais region. Renowned for the diversity and quality of its wines, this appellation produces mainly white wines from the Chardonnay grape, but also red and rosé wines from the Gamay and Pinot Noir grapes.
.The Mâcon PDO covers a vast area of southern Burgundy, encompassing a variety of distinct terroirs. Soils vary considerably, from limestone and marl to clay and schist. This geological diversity, combined with a temperate continental climate with Mediterranean influences, provides ideal conditions for growing vines and enables the production of wines with varied characters but always of high quality.
The white wines of the Mâcon PDO are mainly made from the Chardonnay grape. They are distinguished by their freshness, fruitiness and minerality. Typical aromas include notes of white-fleshed fruit (apple, pear), citrus (lemon, grapefruit) and floral nuances (white flowers), with hints of hazelnut and butter in more mature wines. On the palate, they are generally lively, balanced and persistent.
The red wines of the Mâcon PDO are mainly made from Gamay and Pinot Noir grapes. Typical red aromas include notes of red fruits (cherry, raspberry) and black fruits (blackberry, blackcurrant), with occasional spicy and earthy touches. Rosé wines, also made from Gamay and Pinot Noir grapes, are fresh and fruity, with red fruit aromas and invigorating acidity.
.The Mâcon PDO covers an area of around 4,000 hectares, spread over numerous communes in the Mâconnais region. Annual production is around 250,000 hectolitres, or about 33 million bottles. This broad production allows us to maintain a diversity of styles and terroirs while guaranteeing high quality.
