The Côtes du Marmandais PDO in a few words
Discover organic wines from the Côtes du Marmandais terroir. AOP Côtes du Marmandais is located in southwestern France, not far from the town of Marmande, on the terroir of Cocumont, in the Lot-et-Garonne region. This appellation produces 78,400 hl/year of wine on average, almost all of it red (90%).
The Côtes du Marmandais terroir is divided into 2: on the right bank, steep hillsides are composed of draining clay-limestone soils. On the left bank, vast plains formed by ancient alluvial terraces are made up of gravel, marl, coarse sand and layers of clay with an iron content that is of interest to the vines.
The red wines of Côtes du Marmandais are often made from a blend of grape varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, but also abouriou, a typical AOP grape variety. White wines are often made from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, while rosé wines are made from varieties such as Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Côtes du Marmandais wines often develop fruity and spicy aromas, with notes of red and black fruit, spice and licorice.
Production covers 1300 hectares, and the cooperative winery generates around 97% of the wine volume. There are only a handful of independent winemakers who do not belong to the cooperative and present wines of the highest interest.
