AOC Brouilly

The appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) Brouilly is a French wine appellation located in the Rhône department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It is reserved for red wines produced in the communes of Cercié, Charentay, Odenas, Quincié-en-Beaujolais, Saint-Etienne-la-Varenne and Saint-Lager, located in the Beaujolais vineyards.

The first traces of viticulture on Mont Brouilly date back to the 1st century BC. Brouilly has been recognized by the Institut National de l'Origine et de la Qualité (INAO) as an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) since the decree of October 19, 1938.

The vineyards of Brouilly are located in the Beaujolais region.

The Brouilly vines are located on a plateau with an average altitude of 300 meters. The soil is made up of granite, schist and clay. This soil gives Brouilly wines their fruity, rounded character. The single grape variety authorized for AOC Brouilly is gamay.

We offer Brouilly from domaine les Capréoles, from domaine Perroud, from domaine de la Grand' Cour and the domaine Georges Descombes.

Brouilly wines are vinified using carbonic maceration, a method that involves fermenting whole grapes in closed tanks. This method preserves the fruity aromas of the Gamay grape.

Brouilly wines are made using carbonic maceration.

Brouilly wines go well with charcuterie, cheeses and grilled or roasted meat dishes. They can also be enjoyed on their own, as an aperitif or digestif.

These are just a few of the characteristics of Brouilly wines.

Here are a few specific characteristics of Brouilly wines; their color is light to dark ruby red. The nose often develops aromas of red fruits (cherry, raspberry, redcurrant), flowers (rose, violet) and spices (pepper, licorice). On the palate, the attack is supple, the body round and fresh, and the tannins silky.

.

By 2023, the share of organic Brouilly production is estimated at around 15%.
