AOC Vosne-Romanée

The Appellation d'Origine Protégée (AOP) Vosne-Romanée is one of Burgundy's most prestigious appellations, located in the heart of the Côte de Nuits. Renowned for its exceptional red wines made from the Pinot Noir grape, Vosne-Romanée is often considered to produce some of the finest wines in the world.

Vosne-Romanée is a small wine-producing village located between Nuits-Saint-Georges and Vougeot. The appellation covers around 150 hectares, including six famous Grands Crus such as La Romanée, Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Romanée-Saint-Vivant, and La Grande Rue. The vineyards are planted on complex soils of limestone, clay and marl, offering excellent drainage and a distinctive minerality. The region's continental climate, with hot summers and cold winters, is ideal for ripening Pinot Noir.

Vosne-Romanée PDO wines are made exclusively from the Pinot Noir grape variety. They are distinguished by their elegance, aromatic complexity and ageing capacity. Typical aromas include notes of red fruit (cherry, raspberry), black fruit (blackberry, blackcurrant), as well as floral (rose, violet), spicy (cinnamon, pepper) and woody (vanilla, cedar) nuances. On the palate, the wines are powerful yet balanced, with fine, silky tannins, refreshing acidity and remarkable length.

The Vosne-Romanée PDO covers around 150 hectares, of which around 57 hectares are classified as Grands Crus and 64 hectares as Premiers Crus. Annual production is limited, which contributes to the exclusivity and exceptional quality of the wines. Around 6,000 hectolitres of wine are produced each year, equivalent to around 800,000 bottles.

The wines of AOP Vosne-Romanée are often considered the most elegant and refined in Burgundy. Their aromatic complexity, perfect balance and ability to age admirably bring them close to the grand crus of Burgundy. The best vintages can age for several decades, developing deeper aromas and an even more harmonious texture with time.
