AOP Marcillac

The Marcillac PDO, a winegrowing jewel nestled in the heart of Aveyron, embodies the quintessence of an authentic, unspoilt terroir, where ancestral grape varieties flourish in a natural setting of striking beauty. This little-known but oh-so-singular appellation reveals to insiders an oenological treasure trove of unique flavors and captivating history.

The origins of the Marcillac PDO date back to antiquity, when the Romans planted the first vines in the Lot valley, taking advantage of the region's favorable climate and schist soils. However, it was during the Middle Ages that Marcillac viticulture reached its apogee, under the impetus of the Benedictine monks who developed the art of winemaking and contributed to the renown of Marcillac wines.

The terroir of Marcillac is very rich and varied.

The terroir of AOP Marcillac is remarkably unique, characterized by steep hillsides and red soils of volcanic origin, known as "rougiers", which give the wines a unique identity and incomparable aromas. The appellation's emblematic grape variety, Mansois (or Fer Servadou), finds a choice terroir here, expressing all its finesse and typicity in red wines with assertive personality.

The Mansois grape, a true genetic treasure, is the mainstay of the Marcillac PDO. This hardy, hardy grape variety, known locally as "Fer Servadou", gives rise to elegant, full-bodied red wines, revealing aromas of red fruit, spice and liquorice, with a lovely freshness on the palate and silky tannins.

The Mansois grape variety is a genetic treasure.
