About

Jean-Luc Matha is one of the winemakers who helped establish the Marcillac AOC in 1990 — one of France’s smallest appellations, with just 180 hectares of vineyards, nestled in the Lot Gorges in Aveyron. The estate, located in Bruéjouls, cultivates 13 hectares of terraced vineyards, known locally as “banquettes .” Jean-Luc Matha was one of the first winemakers to redevelop these terraces to combat slope erosion and to ensure safe working conditions in these steep vineyards.

The estate cultivates only one red grape variety, Mansois—also known as Fer Servadou or Braucol depending on the region—a hardy, mountain-grown variety perfectly suited to this challenging terroir. All of the estate’s wines are certified organic. Over the years, Jean-Luc Matha has continually sought to produce wines that are increasingly easy to drink, delicate, and fruity—a philosophy that earned him a star in the 2023 Guide to the Best Wines of France.
