AOP Costières de Nîmes

AOC Costières de Nîmes is a French wine appellation located in the Occitanie region, in the Gard département. It stretches over 40 kilometers between Beaucaire and Vauvert, and is bordered to the north by the Gardon valley and to the south by the Camargue marshes. The appellation is renowned for its red, rosé and white wines, made from a wide variety of grape varieties.

The Costières de Nîmes vineyards are characterized by a great diversity of soils, giving the wines a wide variety of aromas and styles. There are rolled pebbles on the alluvial terraces, calcareous clays on the hillsides and fine sands on the plains. The climate is Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and mild winters. Organic farming is booming in the Costières de Nîmes AOC. By 2023, around 25% of the vineyard area will be certified organic, i.e. some 2,500 hectares.

The Costières de Nîmes AOC authorizes the use of numerous grape varieties, enabling winemakers to create unique and original wines. The most widely used red grape varieties are Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault. The most commonly used white grape varieties are Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Viognier and Roussanne.

Red wines from Costières de Nîmes are generally fleshy and fruity, with supple tannins and good acidity. Rosé wines are fresh and gourmet, perfect for aperitifs or to accompany salads and grilled meats. White wines are dry and aromatic, with a beautiful minerality.
