The appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) Régnié is a French wine appellation located in the Rhône department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It is reserved for red wines produced in the communes of Régnié-Durette and Lantignié, located in the Beaujolais vineyards.
Regnié has been recognized by the Institut national de l'origine et de la qualité (INAO) as an appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) since the decree of December 20, 1988. It is the most recent Beaujolais cru to have been created.
The Régnié vines are located on a plateau with an average altitude of 360 meters. The soil is made up of pink granite, which is a sandy, draining soil. This soil gives Régnié wines their fruity, elegant character. The single grape variety authorized for the Régnié AOC is gamay.
Regnié wines are vinified using carbonic maceration, a method that involves fermenting whole grapes in closed tanks. This method preserves the gamay's fruity aromas.
