AOC Alsace Pinot gris

The Appellation d'Origine Protégée (AOP) Alsace Pinot Gris is a benchmark in the Alsace winegrowing landscape, renowned for the quality and typicity of its white wines made from the Pinot Gris grape variety. This PDO embodies the excellence of Alsatian viticulture, combining tradition, terroir and know-how.

The Alsace Pinot Gris PDO terroir is characterized by a variety of soils, from marl to schist to sandstone and clay, as well as a semi-continental climate, with hot summers and harsh winters. These unique geological and climatic conditions give the wines great aromatic richness and an authentic expression of the Alsatian terroir.

Pinot Gris is Alsace's emblematic grape variety, known locally as "Tokay d'Alsace" before the European Union regulated the use of the term "Tokay" reserved for Hungarian wines. This grape variety, which has had its origins in Alsace for centuries, produces rich, opulent and complex wines with aromas of ripe fruit, honey and spices, with a fine structure and long persistence on the palate.

.

The Alsace Pinot Gris PDO covers around 2,500 hectares of vineyards, spread throughout the Alsace wine region. Each year, this PDO produces around 130,000 hectoliters of white wine, accounting for almost 10% of total Alsace wine production. Alsace Pinot Gris PDO wines are distinguished by their diversity of styles, ranging from dry, mineral wines to mellow, opulent wines, late harvest wines and noble grain selections.

.

Alsace Pinot Gris PDO wines are distinguished by their quality and unique character, reflecting the richness and diversity of the Alsace terroir. Dry wines, also known as "Pinot Gris d'Alsace", offer aromas of yellow fruit, dried fruit and spices, with freshness and aromatic complexity. Mellow wines, made from overripe grapes, reveal aromas of honey, candied fruit and hazelnut, with a soft mouthfeel and long finish.
