The Domaine de la Roche Bleue in a few words...
Le Domaine de la Roche Bleue, located within the Jasnières appellation, is an unmissable reference for lovers of Chenin Blanc and Pineau d'Aunis. Managed by Sébastien Cornille, this 6-hectare estate is committed to organic and biodynamic viticulture. The aim is to preserve the integrity of the terroir while producing elegant, precise and vibrant wines, in the image of this still confidential but rich Loire appellation. Thanks to meticulous work in the vines and in the cellar, Domaine de la Roche Bleue wines offer pure expressions of terroir, with beautiful minerality and great aromatic complexity. The diversity of soils, from clay to limestone to flint, gives the cuvées a refined structure and exceptional ageing potential. The Domaine de la Roche Bleue benefits from an exceptional terroir, where each plot is carefully cultivated to best express the characteristics of the Jasnières and Coteaux-du-Loir appellation.
The Jasnières appellation benefits from a temperate oceanic climate, with continental influences that favor slow, gradual ripening. This situation results in wines with lively acidity, great aromatic purity and a strong ageing potential.
The estate's soils are composed mainly of tuffeau, flinty clay and limestone, giving the wines a beautiful mineral framework and great depth. These soils contribute to the unique typicity of Jasnières Chenin Blancs and Coteaux-du-Loir Pineau d'Aunis. The Domaine de la Roche Bleue follows an organic and biodynamic approach, guaranteeing a vine culture that respects its environment. No pesticides or chemical fertilizers are used, preserving biodiversity and promoting a living soil.
The vines are worked with care, favoring natural grassing and light plowing to encourage deep rooting. Harvesting is carried out by hand, with a rigorous selection of bunches to ensure that only the highest-quality grapes are kept. In the cellar, winemaking is low-intervention, with indigenous yeast fermentations to preserve all the terroir's identity.
Guide des meilleurs vin de France 2024 about Domaine de la Roche Bleue: "In the discreet Sarthe appellations of Jasnières and Coteaux du Loir, Sébastien Cornille has been making a name for himself for several vintages. After a winegrowing adventure on Reunion Island, the thirty-year-old landed in this, the Loire Valley's most northerly vineyard, in 2007. He is gradually converting his 6.50 hectares to organic farming, to make wines as naturally as possible. These are made from chenins planted on flinty clay, which go through long pressings in whole bunches, fermentations and aging in old barrels. Jasnières' whites assert themselves with great vigor and a noble, austere bitterness on the palate, born of their terroir. The reds offer a fine, savory approach to pineau d'aunis, while expressing a lovely peppery bouquet."
