Domaine du Coulet - Matthieu Barret

Le domaine du Coulet in a few words...

Le domaine du Coulet is a superb winery located in the Rhône Valley, more precisely in the Cornas appellation. This appellation is known for producing powerful, concentrated Syrah-based red wines, but Matthieu Barret has this style of his own, producing fresh, elegant Cornas with floral notes.

The Domaine du Coulet was created in 1997 by Matthieu Barret, who represents the eighth generation of winemakers in his family. The estate extends over 10 hectares of terraced vineyards, planted on granite soils.

The wines of Domaine du Coulet are produced biodynamically, i.e. grown in harmony with nature's cycles and without the use of chemicals. The grapes are harvested by hand and vinified in the traditional way, with spontaneous fermentation.

The style of Domaine du Coulet wines is recognizable: very expressive fruit and lots of greed. Domaine du Coulet's organic wines are digestible and gourmet, beautiful airy syrahs.

Domaine du Coulet - Matthieu Barret ,domaine 2 étoiles: "This is a reliable domaine, whose style of wine has delighted us for many vintages. Matthieu Barret benefits from lovely terroirs, cultivated biodynamically and spread over different, fairly cool, windy hillside terroirs in Cornas. With little intervention, he produces well-controlled, low-extract wines with very seductive fruit. These are always easy-to-digest cuvées, in which power does not rhyme with hardness. The wines evolve happily."

How is Domaine du Coulet run?

The Coulet estate is run biodynamically. Among "organic" practices, biodynamic viticulture stands out for its consideration of nature's rhythms and astral influences, as well as for its use of homeopathic-type plant preparations aimed at rebalancing and revitalizing plants rather than curing them in the event of illness. It's a demanding practice that also brings balance to wines by changing the PH of the soil.
