AOC Monthélie
AOC Monthélie is a small AOC officially recognized in 1937. Located on the Côte de Beaune, AOC Monthélie was often sold under AOC Pommard or Volnay before becoming independent.
Monthélie wines are 92% red, made from pinot noir grapes, and 8% white, made from chardonnay.
The Monthélie terroir
The Monthélie vineyard covers 183 hectares. The vines can be south-, east- or west-facing, on soils of Oxfordian marl and ancient alluvium. Monthélie's red wines are quite distinctive, with notes of red and black fruit, including blackcurrant, raspberry and blackberry. Over time, notes of undergrowth appear and give these great Burgundy wines their full flavor.
