Forgotten vines

The Domaine Les Vignes Oubliées, nestled in the heart of the Terrasses du Larzac, embodies a story of viticultural preservation and renaissance. Founded in 2008 by Jean-Baptiste Granier, with the support of Olivier Jullien, this vineyard has set itself the mission of breathing new life into old, previously neglected plots, while adopting an environmentally-friendly approach. This article explores in depth the history of the estate, its unique terroir, its organic viticultural practices, its emblematic cuvées and its impact on viticulture in the region.

In 2008, Jean-Baptiste Granier, a young agricultural engineer, discovered plots of ancient vines in the commune of Saint-Privat, in the Terrasses du Larzac. These vines, threatened with abandonment or destined for cooperation, inspired him to preserve them and reveal their potential. With the support of Olivier Jullien, renowned winemaker from Mas Jullien, he set about bringing these "forgotten vines" back into cultivation, giving birth to the eponymous domaine.

The Les Vignes Oubliées estate extends over diversified soils, composed of schist, sandstone, clay and limestone, situated at altitudes varying between 300 and 400 meters. This geological diversity, combined with the altitude, gives the wines remarkable freshness and complexity. Grape varieties grown include Grenache, Syrah and Carignan for reds, and Clairette, Roussanne and Grenache blanc for whites.

From the outset,Les Vignes Oubliées has adopted environmentally-friendly growing practices. The estate has been certified organic since 2010, reflecting its commitment to sustainable viticulture. The vines are worked manually, without the use of weedkillers or synthetic products, thus promoting biodiversity and soil health.
