Clos Marie

Le Clos Marie in a few words...

Le Clos Marie is the benchmark for Pics Saint Loup. The estate has just embarked on the organic certification process in 2010, even though it has respected the environment for many years. The wines of Clos Marie are powerful and racy, requiring a few years of cellaring to fully express themselves.

Le Clos Marie, located in the heart of the Pic-Saint-Loup appellation, is an emblematic Languedoc estate, renowned for its commitment to artisanal, respectful viticulture. Founded by Françoise Julien and Christophe Peyrus, the domaine has established itself as one of the leading names in Pic-Saint-Loup, thanks to wines that combine elegance, freshness and complexity. With a rigorous approach to vineyard management and a deep respect for terroir, Clos Marie produces cuvées of exceptional finesse, expressing the full richness of the region's limestone soils and unique climatic influences. Each wine is the reflection of meticulous work, where nature and human intervention meet to create pure, vibrant expressions of terroir.

Le Clos Marie extends over 22 hectares of vines, located on exceptional Pic-Saint-Loup terroirs. This appellation, considered one of the highest quality in the Languedoc, benefits from a preserved environment, where the vines flourish at the foot of the Mediterranean mountains and garrigues.

The Pic-Saint-Loup region boasts a Mediterranean climate tempered by continental influences. The wide temperature variations between day and night encourage slow, gradual ripening of the grapes, preserving their acidity and aromatic intensity. This phenomenon enables Clos Marie wines to develop great tension and remarkable depth. The estate's soils are composed mainly of limestone, red clay and marl, giving the wines great minerality and balanced structure. This geological richness, coupled with precise viticultural practices, enables us to produce elegant, racy wines that are well-suited to ageing. The estate follows a philosophy of organic and biodynamic viticulture, favoring the natural balance of vine and soil. No chemical inputs are used, to preserve the biodiversity and microbial life essential to the expression of the terroir. The soil is worked with precision, maintaining natural grass cover and using light ploughing to encourage deep rooting of the vines.

The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand, enabling a rigorous selection of grapes at optimum ripeness. In the cellar, vinification is low-interventionist, favoring fermentation with indigenous yeasts and gentle extractions to respect the integrity of the fruit. Ageing is carried out in foudres, barrels or amphorae, according to the needs of each cuvée, guaranteeing harmonious maturation of the wines without masking their aromatic purity.
