Domaine de la Ferme Saint-Martin

The Domaine de la Ferme Saint-Martin is a winery located in La Suzette, in the southern Rhône Valley. It is run by Thomas Jullien, who took over the family business in 2000. The estate manages 25 hectares of vines, spread over 10 parcels. The vines are planted with 60% grenache, 20% syrah, 10% cinsault and 10% mourvèdre.

The Ferme Saint-Martin estate is farmed organically.

The wines of Domaine de la Ferme Saint-Martin are appreciated for their fruity character, freshness and finesse. The estate has been certified organic since 1998. The vines are worked on horseback. The grapes are harvested by hand. Vinification is carried out without the use of synthetic chemicals.

The Ferme Saint-Martin estate was created in 1998 by Thomas Jullien. Thomas is a local winemaker who grew up in a family of winegrowers. He studied viticulture and oenology, and worked in several estates before embarking on his own adventure.

The terroir of Domaine de la Ferme Saint Martin is marked by the diversity of its soils, which include marl, limestone and clay. These soils, combined with ideal exposure of the vineyards, enable the production of high-quality grapes, endowed with aromatic richness and balanced acidity. The estate covers around 25 hectares, planted mainly with grape varieties typical of the region such as Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, but also with older, lesser-known local varieties, which contribute to the complexity of the wines produced.

La Ferme Saint Martin stands out for its commitment to organic viticulture, certified since 1998, and biodynamics. These environmentally-friendly practices are at the heart of the estate's philosophy. No use of synthetic chemicals is allowed, and vineyard work is guided by natural cycles, promoting biodiversity and soil health. This production choice aims not only to preserve the environment, but also to enhance the expression of terroir in each bottle.

The Domaine de la Ferme Saint Martin produces a range of wines that express the typicity of their terroir and the authenticity of the Rhône Valley. The red wines, mainly from the Beaumes-de-Venise and Ventoux appellations, are full-bodied, with aromas of red and black fruits, accompanied by spicy notes and sometimes hints of garrigue. The whites, though fewer in number, are elegant, with lovely freshness and floral aromas.

The domaine de la Ferme Saint-Martin produces numerous cuvées in Côtes du Rhône, Ventoux and Beaume de Venise:

Les Romanins is a supple, fruity Côte du Rhône from young vines.

Les Estaillades is a fresh Ventoux with notes of red fruit and licorice.

La cuvée Austral is a gastronomic white (orange wine), long and complex. Pair it with the finest cheeses or poultry.

Terres Jaunes is an accessible Beaume de Venise in its youth, supple and juicy. This cuvée goes well with dishes such as ratatouille, grilled vegetables, roast chicken or grilled pork chops. Finally, a platter of fine charcuterie, with dry sausage and country ham, will be perfect to highlight the suppleness of this wine.

The cuvée Saint-Martin is more powerful and complex, and should be kept for 5-7 years. This cuvée would be at home with grilled beef or roast leg of lamb, but also dishes such as wild boar or venison, accompanied by rich sauces. Finally, a hard, mature cheese, such as an aged Comté or Beaufort, will magnify the wine's complex aromas.

.

Finally, Costancia is the beautiful cuvée de garde, typified syrah! A boeuf bourguignon or coq au vin, with their rich sauces, will be magnified by the complexity of this wine.

Guide des meilleurs vins de France 2024: "The wines produced are fine, precise, intense with, as a common thread, a minerality not unlike the Dentelles at the foot of which they are born. All the cuvées are sure-fire values, from ventoux to beaumes-de-venise."
