Champagne De Sousa

Champagnes de Sousa in a nutshell....

Located on the terroir of Avize, in the Côte de Blancs, Champagnes de Sousa are exceptional products. The estate has been bio-dynamic since 2013 in order to seek even greater purity and authenticity in these flasks. The entire range of de Sousa Champagnes is highly convincing, these great wines having great elegance and freshness.

The estate has been working with respect for the environment since 1999, and has been certified organic since 2010 and certified biodynamic since 2013. It owns parcels on the Côte de Blancs, in the terroirs of Avize, Cramant, Oger and Mesnil/Oger. The chalky subsoil of these terroirs imparts a rare finesse and elegance to De Sousa champagnes. Erik de Sousa, who led the estate for many years, sadly passed away at the beginning of 2023.

De Sousa is a reference address in the world of champagne.

Guide des meilleurs vins de France 2023: "The estate comprises 14 hectares of vines, mainly Chardonnays, located in the Côte des Blancs in Avize, as well as Pinot Noir, in Aÿ and Ambonnay. (...) The estate can rely on a large majority of Grand Cru terroirs and a potential of old vines that exceed half of the estate. The constant evolution today allows a much better management of the woody aspects, highlighting magnificent materials full of energy and concentration."

The different Champagne de Sousa

The Champagne Grand Cru Extra Brut Réserve is a blanc de blancs with very fine bubbles. Fine and delicate, it's a great aperitif Champagne.

The Cuvée 3A, for its part, is a blend of chardonnay and pinot: windier, this more powerful Champagne will be equally at home as an aperitif or with a meal.

Les Caudalies for its part is an exceptional Champagne, mineral and with fine bubbles. It's a 100% chardonnay that's a real role model!

Where is Avize?

Avize is located in Champagne, in the heart of the most beautiful terroirs of the Côte des Blancs.

What is the style of De Sousa Champagnes?

De Sousa Champagnes are elegant, fine and mineral, thanks to the old Chardonnay vines and chalky terroir.

Who is Erick De Sousa?

Erick De Sousa has run the estate for many years. He has been a pioneer in viticulture (organic since 1999, even though certification only came in 2010), but also in ageing: since the 1995 vintage and on old vines over 50 years old, vinification has taken place in small oak barrels to give the wine body.

What do you pair De Sousa Champagnes with?

The minerality of these Champagnes makes them the ideal companion for aperitifs, seafood platters or fish à la plancha.

Champagne De Sousa Champagne - Cuvée 3A Extra Brut Grand Cru

De Sousa's Cuvée 3A is made from equal proportions of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Vinification takes place in oak barrels, and the cuvée requires prolonged cellar aging of at least 3 years to reach full maturity. The dosage is low (less than 5g/L): it brings out the balance between the freshness and finesse of the Chardonnay on the one hand, and the roundness and power of the Pinot Noir on the other.RVF : 16/20Parker : 91/100Le Point 17.50/20
