AOC Coteaux de l'Aubance

The Coteaux de l'Aubance PDO is an appellation where a sweet white wine is produced on the hillsides bordering the Aubance, a small tributary on the left bank of the Loire, like the Layon which flows further west. This appellation is part of the Loire Valley vineyards. The Coteaux de l'Aubance PDO production area is located in the Maine-et-Loire department, south of Angers. It covers an area of around 200 hectares.

The single grape variety authorized for the Coteaux de l'Aubance PDO is Chenin blanc. The vines are planted on slopes of schist and limestone, facing south or southeast. The climate is temperate, with mild winters and hot, sunny summers.

The grapes are harvested when overripe, when the berries are well candied. They are then pressed and the must is fermented in vats. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for several months, giving it aromas of yellow fruit and exotic notes.
