The Domaine des Pothiers in a few words....
The domaine des Pothiers is located in the AOC Côte roannaise, one of the most southerly vineyards in the Loire Valley, not far from the source of the river. The Côte roannaise AOC covers almost 200 hectares between Clermont-Ferrand and Lyon, in the north of the Loire department. It's a small 25 km strip not far from Roanne, bordered on its south-eastern side by the Loire, making it one of the most southerly vineyards in the Loire Valley. The general exposure of the slopes is to the east. Domaine des Pothiers has been working its vines organically since 2005.
Under the direction of Romain Paire, the Domaine des Pothiers has adopted organic and biodynamic viticulture practices. Certified organic since 2005 and biodynamic since 2010, the estate strives to work in harmony with nature. No synthetic chemicals are used, and biodynamic practices include the use of herbal preparations and the observation of lunar cycles for vineyard work. These methods produce healthy, high-quality grapes, while preserving the environment and biodiversity of the vineyard.
The terroir of Domaine des Pothiers is characterized by granitic soils, which bring minerality and freshness to the wines. These soils, combined with a semi-continental climate with Mediterranean influences, create ideal conditions for growing Gamay, the domaine's main grape variety. The estate covers around 21 hectares of vines, mainly planted with Gamay Saint-Romain, a local variety of Gamay, but also with white varieties such as Chardonnay and Viognier.
Surely, the domaine des Pothiers is one of the Loire's most beautiful estates.

The domaine cuvée is a flagship cuvée from domaine des Pothiers: the wine is fruity, with slightly crisp tannins. A wine for an impromptu dinner.
Domaine des Pothiers' Cuvée n° 6 is more accomplished: the wine has good substance, mellow tannins and real gourmandise with notes of cherry and raspberry. A real favorite!
La Chapelle is a superb parcel, with bright fruit and silky structure. This wine can be enjoyed over 7 to 10 years
Le Clos du Puy du domaine des Pothiers is a cuvée aged in oak; combined with a drastic selection of grapes, the result is a deep, gourmet cuvée capable of being enjoyed over 5-7 years.
In white, the cuvée Fou de Chêne, with its volume and elegance, is highly recommendable.
