Discover our wide range of organic and natural Burgundy wines

The organic wines of Burgundy are among the most fascinating wines in the world. Produced almost exclusively from pinot noir for reds and chardonnay for whites, Burgundy wines, despite being mono-varietals, are among France's most complex and bewitching.

Burgundy wines come from a multitude of AOCs. Once considered a major obstacle to the development and sale of Burgundy wines, this characteristic is now seen as a strength, as it reflects the authenticity and complexity of Burgundy wines.

Burgundy, land of great wines

A hierarchy of appellations provides a first level of understanding for those discovering Burgundy wines.

A regional appellation such as Bourgogne, followed by a grape variety (aligoté) or a sub-appellation (Côte chalonnaise), constitutes the first level of Burgundy wines. The qualities are very heterogeneous, but excellent value for money can be found among the winegrowers who carefully work these vines.

Then come the communal AOCs such as Chablis, Pommard, Volnay, Gevrey-Chambertin, Pernand-Vergelesses, Ladoix and Nuits-Saint-Georges. These AOCs may be supplemented by 1er cru indications, if the Burgundy wines cited come from parcels classified as 1er cru, often located on hillsides. For example, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er cru Clos Prieur for Domaine Trapet.

Finally, Grands crus are entitled to mention this indication on the label: this is the case for Chambertin, Clos Vougeot or Richebourg, for example.

Burgundy wines stop in the north at AOC Irancy for reds and Chablis for whites. To the south, they stop with Mâconnais and Beaujolais, which can be included in Burgundy to a certain extent; red wines made from Pinot Noir and produced in Beaujolais will soon have the right to the generic appellation Bourgogne.
