Château du Hureau

Le Château du Hureau, located in the heart of the Saumur-Champigny appellation, brilliantly embodies the pure, heartfelt expression of Cabernet Franc. Managed by Philippe Vatan, this family estate covers 20 hectares and features meticulous vineyard management, respecting the principles of organic and biodynamic farming. Since taking over, Philippe Vatan has focused on revealing all the richness of this Loire terroir through precise, low-intervention vinifications, giving rise to wines of great finesse.

Thanks to demanding viticulture and meticulous cellar work, the wines of Château du Hureau reflect all the diversity of Saumur-Champigny's limestone and sandy-clay soils. Freshness, complexity and balance are the watchwords of this estate, which makes its appellation shine through the purity and sincerity of its cuvées. Le Château du Hureau benefits from an exceptional terroir that enables it to produce authentic, expressive wines representative of their appellation.

The Saumur-Champigny appellation benefits from a temperate oceanic climate, influenced by its proximity to the Loire River. Winters are mild and summers moderate, offering ideal conditions for the gradual ripening of Cabernet Franc, the estate's king grape variety. The vines are planted on a variety of soils, composed mainly of tuffeau, sand and clay, giving the wines great finesse and a marked minerality. These soils give the cuvées aromatic depth and balanced structure, ensuring excellent ageing potential.

The Château du Hureau follows an organic and biodynamic approach, guaranteeing a vine culture that respects its environment. No pesticides or chemical fertilizers are used, preserving biodiversity and promoting a living soil.

Les Tuffes is a gourmet Saumur-champigny: The nose reveals subtle aromas of fresh red fruits, violets and a touch of pepper. On the palate, the balance is perfect between freshness and depth, with fine tannins and good length. This wine is an ideal accompaniment to white meats, roast poultry and mature cheeses.

The Fours aux Chaux cuvée comes from an exceptional terroir composed of tuffeau, the limestone rock emblematic of the region. This wine reveals a complex nose with notes of black fruits, violets and graphite. On the palate, the attack is ample and elegant, with an assertive tannic structure and a long, mineral finish. This racy, intense Saumur-Champigny is an ideal accompaniment to grilled red meats, sauce dishes and mature cheeses.
