Mas de Libian

Le Mas de Libian in a few words...

Le Mas de Libian is owned and operated by the Thibon-Macagno family, a magnificent Côtes du Rhône estate. The estate is located in St Marcel d'Ardèche very close to the Ardèche gorges.

The terroir of the Mas de Libian is composed of rolled pebbles and red clay, and the grape varieties used are typically regional: grenache, syrah and mourvèdre predominantly for the red wines, and viognier and roussane for the white wine.

The vines at Mas de Libian are worked on horseback, and the estate has never seen a synthetic product since it has belonged to the Thibon family, i.e. since 1670!

The care taken with the predominantly south-southeast facing vines is one of the keys to understanding the consistent quality of these wines produced biodynamically since 2005 by Mas de Libian.

The wines of the Mas de Libian have made steady progress in recent years, gaining in precision and digestibility. The reds are mostly AOP Côtes du Rhône and sometimes vin de France.

KHAYYÂM is a Mas de Libian cuvée created as a tribute to Omar Khayyâm, the 11th-century Persian Muslim poet and mathematician who followed a philosophy inspired by Carpe Diem. This wine, made from a majority of Grenache grapes, is partially aged in casks. Black fruits and spices accompany its structured yet elegant palate.

La Calade is the great red wine of Mas de Libian, powerful and racy, it's a Côtes du Rhône that deserves a detour and a few years of cellaring to express its full potential. Pair it with a daube or game to reveal its full potential.
