AOP Givry

The Appellation d'Origine Protégée (AOP) Givry is one of the most renowned appellations in Burgundy's Côte Chalonnaise region. Known for its elegant red wines and refined whites, Givry is an essential reference for lovers of quality Burgundy wines.

The Givry PDO is located in the heart of the Côte Chalonnaise, near the communes of Givry, Dracy-le-Fort, and Jambles. The Givry terroir is characterized by clay-limestone soils that give the wines their structure and minerality. The region's climate is continental, with hot summers and cold winters, favoring optimal ripening of the grapes and rich aromatic expression.

Givry PDO red wines are made from the Pinot Noir grape variety. They are distinguished by their finesse, aromatic complexity and ageing capacity. Typical aromas include notes of red fruit (cherry, raspberry), black fruit (blackberry, blackcurrant), as well as floral (violet) and spicy (pepper, licorice) nuances. On the palate, the wines are well-balanced, with fine, silky tannins, well-integrated acidity and good length.

The white wines of AOP Givry are produced from the Chardonnay grape. They are characterized by freshness, minerality and elegance. Typical aromas include white-fleshed fruit (apple, pear), citrus (lemon, grapefruit), floral (white flowers) and sometimes buttery and toasty nuances. On the palate, the wines are lively, round and harmonious, with a persistent finish.

The Givry PDO covers an area of around 280 hectares, divided between the three communes mentioned. Annual production is around 11,000 hectolitres, or about 1.5 million bottles. Most of this is red wine, with a smaller proportion of white. The diversity of plots and climates within the appellation enables the production of wines with varied profiles but always of high quality.

AOP Givry wines are renowned for their elegance and balance. The reds offer aromatic complexity and tannic structure that enable them to age admirably, while being accessible young for their bright fruitiness. The whites, with their freshness and minerality, are perfect with seafood, fish and fresh cheeses. Givry wines reflect the typicity of their terroir and the mastery of winemakers who combine tradition and innovation.
