The Grés de Montpellier PDO is a French wine appellation located in the Hérault department, in the Occitanie region. It has been recognized since 2003 and covers an area of 310 hectares.

The Grés de Montpellier vineyard is located on a limestone plateau, at an altitude of between 200 and 400 meters. The soils are mainly composed of sandstone, which gives the wines their unique character.

The red wines of AOP Grés de Montpellier are generally intense ruby red in color. They present aromas of red fruit, black fruit, flowers and spices. They are powerful and full-bodied, with good acidity. They can be aged for several years.

The white wines of AOP Grés de Montpellier are generally pale yellow to golden yellow in color. They present aromas of white fruits, flowers and honey. They are dry, with good acidity and pronounced minerality. They can age for several years.

AOP Grés de Montpellier rosé wines are generally pale pink to deep rosé in color. They present aromas of red fruits, flowers and exotic fruits. They are fresh and fruity, with good acidity. They can be enjoyed young or aged.

The grape varieties authorized for the Grés de Montpellier PDO are as follows:

Red: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan, Cinsault

Whites: Grenache Blanc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Picpoul de Pinet

Rosé: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan, Cinsault, Grenache Blanc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Picpoul de Pinet
