It grows Syrah in Crozes-Hermitage, as well as vineyards in Saint-Joseph and Hermitage. At Ardoneo, discover the Marion (2020), the flagship Syrah wine, and the 2022 Crozes-Hermitage Red.

At a glance: Gervans, north of Crozes-Hermitage; three appellations (Crozes-Hermitage, Saint-Joseph, Hermitage); Syrah for reds, Marsanne and Roussanne for whites; granite and loess in the north, alluvial soils in the south; hand-harvested; certified organic farming.

The History of Domaine Laurent Habrard

Domaine Laurent Habrard is a family-owned estate in Gervans. Its sole Hermitage plot, in the locality known as Les Roucoules, was purchased by Laurent’s grandfather in the 1970s; some of the vines are over a century old, with vines dating back to the vineyard’s replanting following the phylloxera epidemic. Marion Desigaux joined the estate in 2019 to handle administrative management: the “Marion” cuvée pays tribute to her. The estate is certified organic, with a particular focus on the ecosystem.

The terroir: three appellations in the northern Rhône

The vineyard is highly fragmented: numerous small plots spread across Gervans, Crozes-Hermitage, Erôme, and Pont-de-l’Isère, with vines ranging from 15 to 70 years old. In the northern part of the appellation, soils of weathered granite and loess on steep slopes produce taut and elegant Syrahs; in the south, alluvial deposits from the Rhône River lend the wines roundness and generosity. The white wines of Crozes-Hermitage come from the village of Gervans, from vines some of which are over 80 years old. The Hermitage plot, too steep for mechanical cultivation, is harvested by hand.

Organic farming

The estate is certified organic. Tillage replaces all herbicides; only contact-type products are used in the vineyards, and fertilizers are of organic origin. In the cellar, winemaking involves minimal intervention.

Wines from Domaine Laurent Habrard

Marion, the flagship wine

Crozes-Hermitage Marion Red 2020: 100% Syrah, a blend of granitic soils from the northern part of the appellation and alluvial soils from the south, selected from the estate’s finest barrels and tanks. An open and powerful nose of black fruit, spices, smoky notes, blond tobacco, and violets; on the palate, it is soft and velvety, with beautiful body, silky tannins, and a long, spicy finish. Aged for 15 months, half of which was in oak barrels. A Crozes-Hermitage for fine dining, built to age.

Crozes-Hermitage Red

2022 Crozes-Hermitage Red: the estate’s flagship Syrah, expressing a balance between the tension of the appellation’s northern region and the generosity of the south. A wine for enjoyment and dining, more approachable in its youth than the Marion cuvée.

The rest of the lineup

The estate also produces a white Crozes-Hermitage made from Marsanne and Roussanne, a Saint-Joseph, and a white Hermitage crafted from very old Marsanne vines in the Les Roucoules vineyard, featuring a floral and delicate style.

Food pairings with wines from Domaine Laurent Habrard

The red Crozes-Hermitage wines pair well with rib roast, game, roast lamb, slow-cooked dishes, or aged cheeses. The whites pair well with premium fish, cream-based poultry dishes, and goat cheeses.
