AOC Beaujolais
Beaujolais is an often maligned AOC. Beaujolais nouveau has done a lot of good by introducing this wine region to the world, and a lot of harm because of the often mediocre wines offered at the festival.
Beaujolais wines are, however, tasty, gourmet and very enjoyable if the Gamay grape that makes them up is worked with the utmost care.
The Beaujolais terroir
The Beaujolais AOC covers 7,000 hectares, making it difficult to give a typical description of the Beaujolais terroir. The climate is close to continental. The wines produced are gamay-based, and over 95% of them are red.
