AOC Coteaux du Layon

The Coteaux du Layon PDO is a French appellation d'origine contrôlée for sweet white wines produced in the Maine-et-Loire department of the Pays de la Loire region. It is located on the hillsides bordering the Layon River, a tributary of the Loire. The appellation was created in 1950 and covers a surface area of 1,350 hectares, including 350 hectares for Coteaux-du-Layon Villages, a more restricted denomination requiring stricter production conditions. It extends over 1,350 hectares, including 350 hectares for Coteaux-du-Layon Villages.

The vineyard's climate is oceanic, with continental influences. Winters are mild and summers hot and dry.

The vineyard's main authorized grape variety is the Coteaux-du-Layon Villages.

The main authorized grape variety is Chenin Blanc. Coteaux du Layon PDO wines are characterized by a deep golden-yellow color, aromas of honey, candied fruit and flowers, and a long, persistent finish.

The soils of the vineyards of the Coteaux du Layon region are very rich.

The vineyard's soils are mainly schist and sandstone. These soils are poor and shallow, which favors the concentration of sugars in the grapes.
