A magnificent Coteaux du Layon from Domaine Ogereau: a rich and refined Chenin, full of elegance!
The Coteaux du Layon Saint-Lambert is Domaine Ogereau’s signature sweet wine — the most faithful expression of the estate’s historic expertise, founded in 1890 in Saint-Lambert-du-Lattay, at the heart of one of France’s most beautiful sweet wine appellations. Vincent and Emmanuel Ogereau (5th generation) cultivate 23 hectares using organic and biodynamic farming methods on schist and sandy soils that give the wines their characteristic tension and minerality.
The winemaking process for this sweet wine is particularly meticulous: the goal is not to achieve very high concentration in the grapes, but rather a balance characterized by freshness and aromatic vibrancy. Emmanuel Ogereau makes frequent visits to the vineyards—about once a week throughout the month of October—carefully selecting only the berries from each cluster that are just beginning to develop concentration due to noble rot. This meticulous sorting allows for the harvest of grapes of remarkable precision and purity, fermented with native yeasts and aged in tanks and 500-liter barrels containing no new wood.
The 2025 reveals a vibrant nose of yellow fruits, apricot, honey, and candied citrus. The palate is balanced, with the sugars perfectly integrated by the Chenin’s lively acidity, leading to a long, pure finish.
Serve between 8 and 10 °C. Pairings: foie gras, aged cheeses, fruit tarts, Roquefort. Aging potential: 10–20 years.
