Domaine Pique-Basse

The Domaine Pique-Basse in a few words...

Le domaine Pique-Basse is a magnificent estate located on the terroit de Roaix, in the Rhône valley. The estate covers around ten hectares between the Roaix and Rasteau terroirs. Olivier Tropet has been managing this certified organic estate since 2009. He spent 10 years converting his vineyards to organic farming. The domaine Pique-Basse has southeast-facing, east-facing vines, which enable the grapes to retain beautiful balance and freshness.

The wines from Domaine Pique-Basse are produced in the Roaix Côtes du Rhône Villages appellation, in red, white and rosé, and in the Cru Rasteau red.

Roaix is the smallest Côtes du Rhône village appellation, covering 113 hectares and sharing the same hillside as Rasteau. This terroir of clay-limestone soils produces wines that are full-bodied and fresh at the same time, a not inconsiderable advantage in the region.

The Domaine Pique-Basse vintages

The Domaine Pique-Basse produces several cuvées in all colors!

L'Atout du Pique is the estate's gastronomic white: a rich yet fresh organic wine, very much at home throughout a meal.

The rosé is called l'Ambigu: it's lively and straightforward, with redcurrant notes.

Brusquembille is the first red: made from maloritarily Syrah, this organic wine is fresh, with notes of red fruit and spice!

Chasse-Coeur asserts a rounder, more gourmand side thanks to its Grenache dominance!

L'AS du pique has more substance and is closer to a Rasteau in terms of structure: it's long and complex

Finally the Rasteau is powerful and structured, with notes of black fruit!

Domaine Pique-Basse Côte du Rhone - Atout du Pique 2022

L'atout du Pique du domaine Pique-Basse is a cuvée from a single 45-year-old plot of white Grenache, very rare in a "roaixois" landscape dominated by red wines, located below the Ventraben massif lieu dit les crottes. This 100% Grenache blanc develops notes of sun-kissed fruit, followed by a remarkable balance between mellowness and freshness, finishing with a citrus/fennel duo. A gastronomic white!

Domaine Pique-Basse Côtes du Rhone - In the heart of Ventabren 2023

The Cuvée Au Coeur de Ventabren from Domaine Pique-Basse comes from plots of Syrah planted in 1975 in the foothills of the Ventabren massif at a place called "Croix de Cornu" with clay soil (a mixture of yellow and white marls) naturally giving a low yield of 30 hectoliters per hectare. The color is dark, almost black, with blood-red highlights. The nose opens with smoky notes of black pepper and blond tobacco, followed by mineral aromas and well-integrated wood. The palate, all spicy length, is perfectly matched by the freshness of smooth, taut, still-tight tannins.
