Domaine de la Grand'Cour

A few words about Domaine de la Grand' Cour

The Domaine de la Grand'Cour is one of the oldest in Fleurie and was bought in 1969 by Jean DUTRAIVE. He took over 9 hectares of Fleurie on the Grand'Cour, Chapelle des Bois and Champagne terroirs. He also kept 1.60 hectares of Brouilly from the five-generation-old family estate in the village of Charentay in Vuril. Jean-Louis Dutraive has run Domaine de la Grand'Cour since 1989. He owns 10 hectares, the majority of which are located on the Fleurie terroir. Domaine de la Grand'Cour has been converted to organic farming since 2009; the wines are fermented with indigenous yeasts, with fairly long maceration and ageing (over a year).

Jean-Louis Dutraive's organic wines possess a rare fruitiness and elegance, which leads some Gamays to pinot on Champagne terroir, for example. Magnificent production.

Guide des meilleurs vins de France 2020 about Domaine de la Grand'Cour: "A slight accent du cru, an enveloping hand and a joyful gaze Jean-Louis Dutraive embodies a generation that has learned, then passed on. His endearing sensibility enables him to produce exceptional cuvées where the finesse of the fruit vies with the elegance of Fleurie's sun-drenched terroirs. An adept of indigenous yeasts, long macerations and ageing in wood, but also of organic farming and minimal, if any, use of sulfur, his wines are models of purity of juice. Although they can be drunk young after decanting, it's only after five years that they reveal the nobility of their terroir. As production is limited, reservations are essential."
