The Nicolas Maillet estate in a nutshell...
The Domaine Nicolas Maillet is located on the hillsides of the small village of Verzé (Saône et Loire, France) in the heart of the Mâconnais region, 60 Km north of Lyon and 120 Km south of Dijon. It has belonged to the Maillet family for four generations. The wine was then made in the cellars of the family estate.
In 1928, the estate's production was brought to the village cooperative cellar until 1999, when it was once again processed at the family estate. The estate comprises seven hectares of vines, mostly Chardonnay. The average age of the vines is 50 years. Domaine Nicolas Maillet has been certified organic since 2011. For the past 5 years, it has been practicing biodynamics.
Guide des meilleurs vins de France 2019: "Nicolas Maillet continues his father's work with great regularity, concentrating mainly on the old vines of the village of Verzé. (...) he offers a range of very pure and seductive wines, whose particularity is to dispense with any woody artifice."
