The 2024 Fontenille Rouge is the entry-level red wine that introduces you to the world of Domaine de Fontenille—an organic Luberon red designed for immediate enjoyment, pairing with meals, and sharing.
Domaine de Fontenille and the Luberon AOP
Domaine de Fontenille is one of the most charming organic estates in the Luberon. Located at the foot of the Petit Luberon, between Apt and Pertuis, it produces a complete range of certified organic red, white, and rosé wines, with a clear hierarchy between entry-level cuvées (Fontenille), prestige cuvées (Alphonse), and a few limited-production wines. The entire vineyard is cultivated using organic farming methods on south-to-southeast-facing clay-limestone soils, in a terroir that benefits from both the Provençal sunshine and the cool Luberon nights.
Grape Varieties and Winemaking
The blend for the 2024 Fontenille Rouge combines Grenache and Syrah—the classic grape varieties of the Luberon and Provence. The grapes are harvested by hand in the early morning to preserve their aromatic freshness. After rigorous sorting and destemming, the grapes undergo low-temperature pre-fermentation before fermentation and aging in concrete tanks or oak casks. This approach preserves the fruit while imparting a light structure that allows the wine to age for a few years.
Tasting Notes for the 2024
The color is an intense, luminous ruby. The nose is expressive and rich: black cherry, raspberry, and blackberry, with a spicy note characteristic of Luberon Syrah. The palate is round and concentrated, with juicy black fruit and a welcome freshness on the finish. The tannins are smooth and silky—this is a red wine to be enjoyed right now, without waiting, at cellar temperature (15–17°C). Estimated peak in 2030.
Food and Wine Pairings
Grilled lamb and beef, lamb chops with herbes de Provence, oven-baked vegetable tian, duck breast, hard cheeses (Comté, Emmental). Perfect for sharing with friends around a Provençal barbecue.
