Domaine Giacometti - Vin de France - Sempre Cuntentu 2025

(Réf : SEMPRE25)

Sempre Cuntentu — “always happy” in Corsican — is the delightful red wine from Domaine Giacometti, made from Sciaccarellu grapes grown in the Agriates region. This lesser-known Corsican grape variety produces light, spicy wines with notes of pink pepper, strawberry, and garrigue. A far cry from powerful reds: fresh, easy to drink, and perfect with Corsican charcuterie or as a slightly chilled aperitif.

About

Sempre Cuntentu — “always happy” in Corsican — says it all about this wine’s character: it is Domaine Giacometti’s cuvée of pleasure and sharing, designed to be enjoyed with joy, without formality, on any occasion.

Domaine Giacometti and the Agriates terroir

Domaine Giacometti is one of the leading producers of organic wines in Corsica, located in the Patrimonio terroir in the north of the island, in the Saint-Florent region. The Agriates—these wild and unspoiled lands stretching between Saint-Florent and Île-Rousse—offer unique conditions: clay-limestone soils, ideal exposure, and the cool sea breezes sweeping down from the hills. It is one of the few vineyards in Corsica to combine intense Mediterranean heat with prolonged nighttime coolness—the key to the estate’s elegant wines.

Sciaccarellu, Corsica’s light-bodied grape variety

Sciaccarellu is one of Corsica’s two major indigenous grape varieties—the other being Nielluccio. Whereas Nielluccio brings structure and tannins, Sciaccarellu stands out for its lightness, freshness, and highly recognizable spicy character. Historically grown in the south of the island (Ajaccio, Sartène), it is produced here in the Agriates region on a small scale, resulting in rare and prized wines. It produces wines with light color and fine, silky tannins, marked by notes of pepper, wild strawberries, and garrigue. A wine perfect for fine dining, best served slightly chilled.

The 2025 tasting notes

The color is a light ruby red, almost translucent—a hallmark of Sciaccarellu. The nose is immediately expressive: pink pepper, wild strawberry, myrtle, and a smoky note characteristic of the grape variety. The palate is light and fresh, with remarkably fine tannins and a peppery, long finish. This is an organic Corsican red best served slightly chilled (14–16°C), in contrast to the powerful reds from the mainland. Estimated peak in 2030.

Food and Wine Pairings

Corsican cured meats (lonzu, coppa), veal à la corse, fresh brocciu, mild sheep’s-milk cheeses, tapenade, herb pizza—and also, dare to serve it slightly chilled with grilled fish in the summer.
