Altitude is the entry-level red wine and the flagship wine of Domaine Boris Champy — the one that best exemplifies the philosophy of this Nantoux-based estate, founded in 1984 by Didier Montchovet, a pioneer of biodynamics in Burgundy, and taken over in 2019 by Boris Champy, a passionate winemaker with extensive international experience. On 12 hectares of vineyards in Nantoux and the surrounding area—certified organic by Ecocert and biodynamic by Demeter—Boris Champy produces fresh, precise, and authentic wines that reflect their high-altitude terroir.
Altitude comprises plots located between 300 and 380 meters—soils of marl with clay, limestone, and flint—which naturally slow ripening and preserve the Pinot Noir’s natural acidity, a valuable factor in the era of climate change. Viticulture is strictly biodynamic: hand-harvested at optimal ripeness, rigorous sorting, and gentle extraction. 50% whole-cluster fermentation in wooden casks, aged for 12 months with only 15% new oak—a very measured proportion that adds structure without ever overpowering the fruit.
The 2024 vintage reveals stone fruits, cedar, and forest floor aromas, with a rich, fresh, and tangy palate. Jasper Morris reviewed it on Inside Burgundy.
Serve at 15–16 °C. Pairings: cuts of meat, vegetarian tagine, cow’s milk cheeses. Aging potential: 5–8 years.
